Eldbjørg Hemsing | Violin

BIS Records will release four SACD discs with Eldbjørg Hemsing. The first disc, Eldbjørg Hemsing’s recording debut, will be released early 2018, featuring Dvořák’s Violin Concerto and Suk’s Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra. Eldbjørg is partnered by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alan Buribayev. The second disc, released late 2018, will be a coupling of Hjalmar Borgström’s Violin Concerto in G major, op.25, and Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the acclaimed Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Olari Elts.

Eldbjørg Hemsing, a champion of Norway’s rich musical tradition, started playing violin at the age of five. She has already enjoyed performing at some of the world’s most prestigious stages since her solo debut with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 11. She has been invited as soloist by some of the world’s top ensembles, including MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, NDR Radio Symphony Orchestra Hannover, Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Eldbjørg Hemsing’s studies at the prestigious Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo and with Boris Kuschnir in Vienna has formed a unique blend of classic Viennese sound with a contemporary Scandinavian sensibility. Praised for her exceptional sound and the ability to establish an authentic connection with music fans, Eldbjørg has received the Audience Prize at the Verbier Festival 2006, First Prize and Audience Prize in the Virtuosi Competition in Norway and the Audience Prize in the Young Musicians 2008.

First recipient of new music scholarship

Eldbjørg Hemsing is further the recipient of the first scholarship of the Germany-based Göhde Foundation earlier in 2017, marking the launch of the foundation’s recently established activity pillar in music, focusing on talent support of gifted young musicians.

About Göhde Foundation

The Göhde Foundation was set up in 2012 with a focus on projects in Africa, targeted to diligently improving the life situation of people through safe water supply, e.g. by creating new water wells, contributing to basic healthcare and to support education.
